Tools and Approach

Flow is a story told in sequence of a few focus where there is a continuity and connection between consecutive focus. Flow has a resolution big or small expressed through the sequence of focus. A Focus gives boundary of content such that a focus is self sufficient in what it is about. 

Flow and Focus however appeals to two different faculties of human mind. Flow is a progression that reflects a executive style of the mind that relates two or more attention instances and gives meaning to them. Focus is  appealing to that faculty that attend to the details and logical dependencies.

In system building we need both of the above faculties –one is almost always intertwined with the other.

Business Requirements can be taken as a collection of multiple stories e.g the shipment arrives in time will be a story and its progression of one kind in the business of warehouse storage where as a late arrival may mean a different story because possibly the main transport mechanism is not available etc. Now each of these stories can be seen as a business identified flow instances. Here the word instance mean each focus in a flow corresponds to a specific condition [e.g  on-time arrival and late arrival are two different instances of an arrival focus that makes two different instances of a reception flow  in  the requirement. Each focus thus encompass a specific condition for the relevant attributes in the requirement..

BIFI: Business Identified Flow Instances

BIFI Explorer

BIFI Explorer is a general tool which is used through out our software development process. It captures the requirements through some flow instances each of which can be navigated through their member focus. As we go into development process BIFI acts as a prototype of different application to user or application to application interactions. At the same time BIFI acts as a repository of all keywords that flows from individual function to another.
